Measuring What Matters

Examinations at Shahbaaz
An examination is not an end in itself. It is a measure: of how much has been understood, what gaps remain, and what must be done next. At Shahbaaz, the assessment calendar is designed not to test students in isolation but to track their progress continuously across the academic year, giving teachers the information they need to intervene early and giving students the feedback they need to improve steadily.
Lesson Based Assessments (LBAs)
Assessment at Shahbaaz begins in the classroom, after every lesson. Lesson Based Assessments are conducted continuously throughout the year to reinforce what has just been taught, identify concepts that need revisiting, and ensure that no student moves forward carrying gaps they cannot afford. They are not examinations in the formal sense: they are the school’s way of taking the pulse of learning in real time.
Formative Assessments (FAs)
Four times a year, students sit Formative Assessments: Early Term, Mid Term, Pre-Final, and Final Term. These are more structured evaluations that measure understanding across the subjects studied to that point in the year. They serve a dual purpose: to give a clear picture of each student’s progress, and to guide the teaching that follows. A Formative Assessment is as much a tool for the teacher as it is a test for the student.
Summative Examinations (SAs)
Twice a year, at the close of each semester, students sit their Summative Examinations. These are the formal, comprehensive assessments that evaluate overall learning and achievement across all subjects for the term. Results from the Summative Examinations form the basis of the school’s academic reports and, in the case of Class 10 students, the foundation upon which KSEAB board preparation is built.
Assess. Analyse. Improve.
Every assessment at Shahbaaz is followed by detailed analysis and feedback. Results are reviewed carefully to identify individual strengths, address learning gaps, and plan the instruction that follows. No examination result is filed and forgotten. Each one is a data point in the ongoing story of a student’s education, and the school takes its responsibility to act on that data seriously. Every assessment is a step forward.
