English Medium Education
Language is the foundation upon which all learning rests, and at Shahbaaz, English occupies that foundational position from the very first day of school. It is the medium of instruction across all subjects and all classes, and the school’s long-standing emphasis on spoken English, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, and handwriting ensures that every student who passes through these gates leaves with a genuine command of the language: not merely the ability to pass an examination, but the ability to think, speak, and write with clarity and confidence.
Additional Languages
Kannada, the language of Karnataka, is introduced from Class 1, ensuring that students develop a strong grounding in the state language alongside their English education. Hindi, the national language, joins the curriculum from Class 6, giving students a working command of three languages by the time they reach their secondary years. Arabic is taught as part of Islamic Studies from the primary classes, with an emphasis on reading and writing, offered as an optional subject.
The school’s approach to language teaching has always gone beyond the textbook. Grammar is taught as a dedicated subject throughout the school years. Vocabulary is developed systematically through the Spell It series in the primary classes. Reading comprehension receives particular and sustained attention, reflecting the conviction of the school’s founders that a child who reads well and reads widely is a child who will never stop learning. Spoken English is encouraged and practised at every stage, producing students who are as comfortable expressing themselves aloud as they are on the written page.
