Homework Policy

Homework is an expectation at SEMS. Homework is defined as written or non-written tasks assigned by a teacher to be completed outside the classroom. These assignments will complement class work and be relevant to the curriculum. Homework is a natural extension of the school day and an important part of a student’s educational experience. Homework encourages self-discipline, pride in one’s work, positive self-esteem, and an interest in learning. Failure to complete assigned homework will have an impact on the student’s class grade as the homework also carries marks during each assessment/exam.

Homework may be assigned as preparation for upcoming lessons or as an extension of class work.

  • Preparation homework – given to prepare a student for upcoming lessons.

  • Practice homework – designed to reinforce lessons already taught in class.

  • Extension/creative homework – intended to provide challenging learning opportunities for enrichment and extension of the lesson.

  • Worksheet- apart from giving exercise questions for preparation. Student will also be given additional questions to solve by reading the lesson.

  • Project/Assignment– Project and assignment are also considered to be done at home. Student should complete their assigned project/assignment at home.

Homework/assignment completion: When a student does not complete required homework, or hand-in required assignments, teachers may give a zero mark. Upon completion of the required work, teachers may re-evaluate (possibly deducting marks for lateness). When it is evident that a student has not put sufficient effort into an assignment or homework, teachers may return the work to the student, noting what improvements need to be made and when it is due for re-marking.

There will be a fixed time table of homework. Everyday specific subject homework will be given which is mentioned in the time table. Parent should keep a copy of time table in order to make their child complete his/her work. Parent are suggested not to send all the subject homework notebooks as it overweighs the bag. Send only those subject books which are mentioned in the time table.

If any student fails to complete his/her homework, he/she will be made complete it during the school hours which may lead to loss of class learning. It is recommended to complete homework in time.

Student who frequently brings incomplete homework, a written notice will be sent to the parent and parent will be asked to meet the principal.
