Academic Curriculum at Shahbaaz English Medium School
Academic Curriculum Overview

Carefully Designed Curriculum
At Shahbaaz English Medium School, education is understood as a continuum: each stage building deliberately and carefully upon the last, each subject chosen to bridge the gap between theory and real-world application, and each year designed to send a child further along the path of knowledge, confidence, and character.
Holistic Development From the Earliest Stages of Learning
From the earliest years of pre-primary, where curiosity is kindled and foundations are laid, to the rigours of the High School years, where students prepare to meet the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) board exams on equal terms with the best in the state, the curriculum at Shahbaaz is comprehensive, structured, and alive to the needs of the child at every stage.
KSEAB Affiliation
The school is affiliated to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB), and the board-prescribed syllabus is covered in full across two semesters every academic year. What Shahbaaz brings to that syllabus is forty years of experienced teaching, a staff of dedicated educators, and an abiding conviction that a child who is taught well, and taught with care, will always exceed expectations.
Pre-Primary: Nursery
The pre-primary years are where it all begins. In our Nursery classroom, children take their first steps into the world of learning with numbers and the alphabet, vocabulary and verse, colours, lines, and forms. It is an environment designed to be as joyful as it is purposeful, because a child who falls in love with learning at this age carries that love for life.
Our Nursery classroom is a place of structured discovery. Children are introduced to numbers and the alphabet through games and activities designed to spark curiosity without overwhelming them. Drawing, sketching, painting, and the first exploration of colours give their creative expression its earliest outlet. Physical Education brings energy and discipline together, teaching children the value of movement, coordination, and play. Every element of the Nursery day is designed with one question in mind: Does this make the child want to come back tomorrow?
Pre-Primary: Lower and Upper Kindergarten
By LKG and UKG, the curriculum expands to include English, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies alongside Arts and Crafts, Storytelling, Reading, and Writing. Poem Recitation remains a particular favourite, bringing language to life in the classroom. Physical Education is a core pillar of the day, because the body requires as much cultivation as the mind.
Storytelling and Poem Recitation deserve particular mention: they build memory, develop expression, expand vocabulary, and give children their first experience of holding a room with words alone. By the time a child completes UKG at Shahbaaz, they leave confident, curious, and already in possession of the foundations upon which everything that follows will be built.
Primary School: Classes 1 to 5
The primary years are where foundations become structures. The curriculum expands to cover English, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Kannada, and English Grammar, supported by the Spell It series, a carefully graded programme that builds vocabulary systematically across successive classes. Arts and Craft, Physical Education, and Islamic Studies round out a curriculum designed to develop the whole child.
From Class 3, students are introduced to Computers, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics, an early and deliberate investment in preparing young minds for a world that is changing faster than any previous generation has had to navigate. By the time a student completes Class 5, they leave primary school with strong language skills, sound mathematical foundations, and a growing awareness of the world around them.
Secondary School: Classes 6 to 8
The secondary years mark a significant broadening of the academic horizon. Environmental Studies gives way to the distinct disciplines of Science and Social Studies, each taught with the depth and rigour they deserve. Hindi joins the curriculum alongside Kannada and English, and English Grammar continues as a dedicated subject, a commitment to articulacy that runs as a thread through every year of study at Shahbaaz.
The full secondary curriculum covers English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Hindi, Kannada, English Grammar, Islamic Studies, Computers, AI & Robotics, and Physical Education. These are years of intellectual growth and growing independence, and the curriculum is designed to meet that growth at every point.
High School: Classes 9 & 10
The high school years represent the culmination of a student’s journey at Shahbaaz, and the curriculum reflects the importance of this stage. Class 9 maintains the full breadth of the secondary curriculum, including Islamic Studies, Computers, AI, and Robotics, allowing students to consolidate their grounding across all disciplines before the final transition.
In Class 10, the focus sharpens toward the SSLC Board examinations. The core subjects, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Hindi, Kannada, and English Grammar, are balanced by Physical Education to ensure well-being during this rigorous year. Every lesson is delivered with the KSEAB examination in view; our consistent results are a testament to the depth of this preparation.
Academic Disciplines
A student who graduates from Shahbaaz leaves not only with their SSLC certificate, but with the language, the discipline, and the intellectual confidence to take on whatever comes next. The subjects they have studied are not merely boxes ticked, but tools sharpened for a lifetime of use.
