Mr. Adnan Vazir, Proprietor & President, Gulbarga Educational Trust
To inherit an institution built by a man of Mohammed Abdul Azeem’s stature is no small responsibility. Mr. Adnan Vazir has met it not by preserving what was handed to him, but by building upon it with the same restless conviction that brought Shahbaaz into existence in the first place.
The second generation of his family at the helm of the school, Mr. Vazir first joined Shahbaaz in 2007, working in the administration department and acquiring the ground-level understanding of the institution that no classroom can provide. Even as he worked, he pursued his academic formation: he holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the Central University of Karnataka, Gulbarga, and an LLB. When his father passed away in 2012, he stepped into the role of Proprietor and President of the Gulbarga Educational Trust, taking the reins of both Shahbaaz English Medium School and, subsequently, establishing Shahbaaz Pre-University College of Science for Girls, under the continued guidance of his mother and co-founder, Mrs. Farida Banu.
The years since have seen a transformation of the institution. Under Mr. Vazir’s stewardship, state-of-the-art laboratories have been constructed for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science. The campus has been comprehensively upgraded with 24-hour CCTV coverage across the entire premises, construction of a dedicated nursery classroom, an improved library, DigiLearning smart boards in classrooms, and a two-way intercom system for monitoring classroom activity and teacher performance.
His instinct for institution-building extends beyond infrastructure. Mr. Vazir introduced a structured house system, instituting a culture of leadership and responsibility among students through the introduction of houses and appointment of prefects, house captains, and the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl.
In 2017, he established Shahbaaz Pre-University College of Science for Girls, one of the best science colleges for girls in Gulbarga, and in the same year, commissioned and launched the Taraana-e-Shahbaaz, the school anthem.
When the COVID-19 pandemic brought conventional schooling to a halt in 2020, Mr. Vazir ensured that Shahbaaz did not miss a step. The school launched a dedicated App to keep students engaged with daily classes and homework, a response that spoke to both his preparedness and his priorities.
As President of the Gulbarga Educational Trust and Proprietor of the school, Mr. Vazir oversees everything from admissions to academic affairs, working each day to raise the standard of what Shahbaaz offers its students.
His work, as he would readily acknowledge, is far from done.
